Installing the Viewer

This topic provides instructions about how to install the AppDynamics Lite Viewer.

Before You Begin

To Install the Viewer

1. Extract the Viewer files from the LiteViewer.zip file.

2. Go the directory where you extracted the LiteViewer.zip file.

3. Ensure that you have Read/Write/Execute permissions on the adlite-viewer.jar file. If needed, use the Windows file properties options or the  Linux chmod a+rwx command:

4. Run the adlite-viewer.jar using the Java interpreter.

If you do not want the Viewer to be installed at the default port, 8990, you can change the port number using the -Dadlite.port command option.

See Runtime Options for other configuration options, such as for login credentials.

5. After Java process completes, the Viewer Lite Shell console opens. You can minimize the console.

To Verify the Installation

1. Open a Web browser and enter the Viewer URL:

If you changed the default port number when you ran the JAR file, use the designated port number.

2. The Viewer prompts you for login credentials. This confirms that the Viewer is installed and usable on the specified port. For the Viewer to be useful, however, you need to install and configure an Agent on your application server.

Troubleshooting Installation Issues

  • If you have not yet configured an Agent, you will not see any information about the application.
  • Look for issues in the liteviewer.log file located at <viewer installation path>/logs/.
